Tailgating Tips: Your Guide for an Unforgettable Game Day

Football season is here, and that means one thing: tailgate season! Whether you’re gearing up to host a tailgate or planning to hop from one party to the next, there are a few key things you should keep in mind to ensure you and your friends have an unforgettable (and safe) experience.

Check the Forecast

Before you head out, make sure to check the weather forecast so you can plan accordingly. Even if rain is on the horizon, there’s no need to let it ruin your fun. Grab your rain jackets, pack some tents, and remind your friends to dress for the occasion—this is not the time to debut those new white sneakers. With a little preparation, you can keep the party going, rain or shine.

Speaking of sunshine, considering we’re in the sunshine state, don’t forget to put on some sunscreen before heading out and stay hydrated throughout the day. The Florida heat is no joke, so it’s best to avoid sunburns and dehydration, especially if you plan on drinking!

Create a Fire Menu

Food and drinks are the heart and soul of any good tailgate. Take some time to plan your menu. Are you thinking about ordering a catered meal, grilling hot dogs and burgers, or whipping up some homemade snacks? Whatever you choose, make sure it’s all prepped or ordered ahead of time so you’re not scrambling on game day.

Elevate your game day experience with a winning meal that keeps everyone happy and ready to cheer! Score big with wing platters from A Town Wings, indulge in cheesy goodness from Gaines Street Pies, or satisfy your BBQ cravings with mouthwatering plates from 4 Rivers Smokehouse.

Bring the Vibes

Let’s be real—tailgates can get a little dull if your team is losing. Make sure to bring some games or activities to keep the party going strong. Classic tailgate games like cornhole or beer pong can add a competitive edge to the festivities. If you want to amp up the excitement, consider organizing a few contests with prizes for the winners. It’s a surefire way to keep everyone engaged and having fun.

Plan Ahead

Planning to drink? Make sure your ride is sorted out in advance. Reserve an Uber or lock in a ride with a friend—just ensure you have a safe way to get there and back.

And don’t forget the essentials! Pack a mini water bottle to stay hydrated, sunscreen, sunglasses, and maybe even some extra toilet paper or wipes—you’ll thank us later.

Tune Down the Noise

Tailgates are all about excitement and energy but don’t forget that you’ve likely got neighbors. If you’re at the house, being mindful of your noise level is crucial. The last thing you want is for the police to show up because of a noise complaint. So, pump up the tunes and cheer for your team, but make sure you’re not disturbing the peace.

Consider making a playlist to set the vibes, this way you don’t have to worry about who’s controlling aux—don’t forget to include the war chant!

Drink Responsibly

For those of you who are 21+, it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings when drinking. You’ve probably heard this a million times, but it’s worth repeating: never drink something you didn’t see being made or that you left unattended. Unfortunately, date rape drugs can be slipped into drinks without anyone noticing, so it’s always better to be cautious.

If you’re underage, remember that getting caught drinking can have serious consequences, including the possibility of suspension from your college or university. And regardless of your age, never, ever drink and drive. It’s just not worth the risk.
