There are two kinds of dryers that folks bring into homes like me that can cause problems, but they don’t have to! Whether you’re blow-drying your hair or getting your clothes dry and fluffed in the dryer, both can be used safely if you are in the know.
Hair dryers can sometimes cause fuses to blow or circuit breakers to trip, which can leave you in the dark! This is because many hair dryers require more amps and watts than typical outlets can handle. If you want to keep the lights on while you’re styling your hair, be sure to turn off other electrical appliances or devices that are plugged in while you’re getting pretty. If that doesn’t work, don’t worry — it’s an easy fix by opening your breaker box and flipping the switch.
Clothes dryers can also be a big safety hazard if you don’t take the right precautions. Dryers and washing machines were involved in one out of every 22 home structure fires reported to U.S. fire departments in 2006-2010 according to the National Fire Protection Agency. Why? Because people forget to clear the lint tray. It only takes a second, and it could save your belongings and your life! If you need help finding the lint tray in your particular model of dryer, just ask us down at the office. Your JP crew is always happy to help!
